- The Istanbul North Rail Crossing Project(INRAIL or the Project) is a crucial infrastructure initiative aimed atenhancing TΓΌrkiye's connectivity across three major international tradecorridors and improving transport services essential to boosting economiccompetitiveness and increasing productivity. It will significantly reducelogistics costs and improve transport services, thereby strengthening economiccompetitiveness and productivity. By shifting freight transport from road torail, INRAIL will lower carbon emissions, supporting TΓΌrkiye-s climate goals.The Project addresses the Marmaray undersea tunnel bottleneck, by providing a higher-capacityoverland alternative to cross the Bosphorus Strait by rail, improving logisticsnetwork resilience and efficiency. It is expected to set the enablingconditions to attract private sector investment and to foster innovation inlogistics services, and generate substantial employment opportunities throughconstruction and increased freight volumes. INRAIL is set to transform TΓΌrkiye-srole as a Eurasian logistics hub, driving economic growth and supportingsustainable transport solutions. Giventhe criticality of INRAIL for the Turkish economy and the need to complete theProject to fulfill international commitments, the Government of TΓΌrkiye (GoT) hasdecided to develop this multi-billion dollar project with public finance on afast-track basis. The GoT sought and secured the support of six internationalfinancial institutions (IFIs), with the World Bank as the lead financier, tosupplement domestic budget financing. The Project will finance the construction of a122-km greenfield railway line that will serve as a bypass of the IstanbulMetropolitan Area and provide a high-capacity overland crossing across theBosphorus. The proposed railway line will start at the ΓayΔ±rova station on theAsian side and end at the Γatalca station on the European side, crossing theBosphorus Strait using the existing track space allocated for this purpose onthe YS...
